# Join or leave an organisation

Accept an organisation invitation or leave an organisation on My LawLibrary.

An organisation invitation connects your existing LawLibrary account to your firm or chambers. You keep your account and saved research. The invitation tells you whether the organisation will provide a paid subscription and what usage information its administrators can see.

## Find an invitation

LawLibrary sends an invitation to the email address entered by the organisation administrator. If the invitation requires a new paid seat, it is sent only after the organisation pays the prorated charge.

If you already have an account with that email address, you can also find the invitation in [My Account](https://lawlibrary.org.za/accounts/profile/):

1. Log in to LawLibrary.
2. Click your name in the top-right menu.
3. Click [**My Account**](https://lawlibrary.org.za/accounts/profile/).
4. Find **Pending invitations** under **Organisation**.
5. Click **Review invitation**.

## Accept an invitation

1. Open the invitation from your email or **My Account**.
2. Log in or create an account with the invited email address.
3. Review the organisation, your role, the proposed subscription and the privacy setting.
4. Review any change to your current individual subscription.
5. Click **Accept invitation**.

An invitation without a paid subscription adds you to the organisation but leaves your current personal or free subscription unchanged.

If you are the initial owner and the organisation is still waiting for its first payment, you may join before paid access starts. Your organisation-funded access will start once the first payment is made.

## If you already pay for LawLibrary

Accepting an organisation-funded seat does not create a second account. Your saved research remains available and is not lost.

Your individual billing will end and your organisation will pay for your subscription. Eligible unused value from your prepaid subscription becomes a credit for the organisation. It is not paid to you as a cash refund. Any eligible personal discount remains linked to you.

## Leave an organisation

Leaving your organisation ends your membership and any paid subscription provided by the organisation. It does not delete your LawLibrary account or saved research.

1. Open [**My Account**](https://lawlibrary.org.za/accounts/profile/).
2. Find the **Organisation** section.
3. Click **Leave organisation**.
4. Review when organisation-funded access will end.
5. Confirm that you want to leave.

If the organisation funds your subscription, your account moves to the free subscription when that funding ends. You can then start an individual subscription if you want paid access. If you already pay for your own subscription, it continues unchanged.

The organisation keeps any unused value that it funded. The released seat may be assigned to another member.

## If you cannot accept or leave

* **The invitation has expired or was cancelled:** ask an organisation administrator to send a new invitation.
* **Your email address does not match:** log in with, or verify, the exact email address that received the invitation. Ask the administrator to send a new invitation if the address is wrong.
* **You already belong to another organisation:** leave that organisation before accepting the new invitation.
* **You are the organisation owner:** transfer ownership before you leave or delete your account.
* **An administrator removed you:** your account remains in place, but organisation-funded access ends on the date selected by the administrator.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.lawlibrary.org.za/subscription-management/organisations-and-chambers/join-or-leave-an-organisation.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
